Cradle cap, (also known as infantile or neonatal seborrhoeic dermatitis), is that nasty yellowish, brownish, or orangey crust-like substance, that seems to forever implant itself on your little baby’s, poor scalp. It usually clears up within the first 6-12 months of life, but seriously who wants to wait that long? Especially, if you do not have to. It’s a very common and completely harmless condition, however it can bother some parents greatly.
You don’t have to simply wait it out, which can take months and months. There are some very simple, painless measures you can take to start getting your baby’s scalp back to normal again! It may take 2-3 treatments, but it isn’t a difficult or costly task to perform. Any adult can do it!
You'll need:
- some olive oil;
- a clean and absorbent washcloth;
- a soft toothbrush.
Douse your clean washcloth with oil.
Put the cloth to baby’s head, and rub the oil over the affected areas.
Let the oil saturate and penetrate the cradle cap, for a minimum of 15 minutes. 30 minutes up to an hour is even better, if you have the time, that is.
Use the soft brush in small circular motions to free some of the scales off of baby’s head. Don’t apply too much pressure, as you may cause soreness (pain). Be gentle, with a tad of pressure, but not too much. As a mother you can gauge this for yourself. You will get this right. Continue until the affected area has been covered multiple times.
Wash your baby’s hair with baby shampoo, to get the oil out.
If you have a baldy, you can get away with putting a small amount of shampoo and water, on a towel, and washing the ‘hair’, without the need for a bath. Just make sure all soap is removed from baby’s head, and all oil is completely gone. It’s no fun being greasy.
Don’t expect perfection after the very 1st time. 2-3 treatments may be necessary, but it DOES work!Make photos of your baby head before and after the procedure, upload to the App. Write briefly about the process and your baby's reaction.
